ABOUT THE ARTIST
Brei Carter is a country singer-songwriter coming out of Monroe. From a young age, Brei sang Charlie Pride songs with her father and watched her aunt perform as a singer in her own country music group.
Determined to utilise the skills she developed as a singer performing for her church, Brei began composing her own original songs that led her to release three singles to date, ‘Country Choir’ (2019), ‘Smiling’ (2020), ‘Yours’ (2020).

Our featured track ‘Smiling’ begins with a smooth, clean guitar riff that is complimented by a steady stomp/clap combination with the addition of a gentle acoustic guitar building the track to the first chorus.
A stripped back chorus is concluded with a strong drum fill that kicks the track into full gear with a steady percussive section driving this melodically uplifting yet lyrically deep track.
A lead break around the 1:56 mark perfectly transitions the piece into a bridge section that concludes with a clean electric pre-chorus breakdown that truly adds to the crescendo of the track as additional gospel choir like backing vocals are layered to give the listener chills.
The repeated line from the chorus, “smiling through the pain”, is particularly powerful when coupled with the uplifting instrumentation and resultantly has the listener truly empathising and relating to Brei. It is without doubt that fans of country and gospel music will love this track, but it is also universally applicable for anyone who has dealt with struggles in their life and has similarly smiled through the pain.
