ABOUT THE ARTIST
Circo is a Puerto Rican rock band that formed back in 2001. The band initially consisted of José Luis Abreu on vocals, Edgardo Santiago on keys and José David Pérez on drums. The group was later joined by Orlando Méndez on guitar and Nicolás Cordero on bass who eventually left the band in 2006.
Circo’s debut album, ‘No todo lo que es pop es bueno’, was produced by Marteen Andruet, edited by Head Music in 2001 and later by Universal Music México in 2003. This album was the catalyst for Circo’s growing success, resulting in two Latin Grammy nominations, making Circo the first independent Puerto Rican rock band to earn this achievement.
The band’s second album, ‘En el cielo de tu boca’, was also released under Universal Music and gathered four Latin Grammy nominations. ‘Cursi’ was released in 2007 by SONY/BMG and once again, achieved several Latin Grammy and Premios Lo Nuestro nominations.
After a break from the music scene in 2009, the band reunited in 2012 and have now completed their latest studio album, ‘Adiós Hola’ under La Buena Fortuna Records and Sony Music Latin.
FEATURED RELEASE
The forth studio album, ‘Adiós Hola’ by Circo, is OUT NOW and available to stream on all major streaming platforms!
‘Adiós Hola’ is a thirty-seven minute, ten track album that incorporates a plethora of stylistic variations within the Alternative genre. The opening track on the album, ‘La Tormenta’, has already gained great traction on Spotify with over fourteen-thousand streams since its release over the course of only a few days.
The track commences with an effected synth line that is the prominent instrument for the majority of the single. The vocal line kicks in at the 0:16 mark and projects a soft and emotive vocal color, adding to the mysterious and somber tone. The utilisation of a subtle vocoder at various stages throughout the track (see 0:28), adds an electronic feel that is reminiscent of the emotive ‘Hide and Seek’ by Imogen Heap. A powerful yet ambient synth is added to the mix around two minutes in. This instrumental addition creates a crescendo that builds to the end of the track.
The diversity within this album is a perfect encapsulation of Circo’s continual development as a band; their unique sound is felt throughout each stylistic variation. All ten tracks provide Alternative compositions that allow each single to stand alone whilst also adding to the complexity of the album as a whole. From the eerie effects of ‘La Tormenta’, the powerful instrumental stabs mixed with an arpeggiated synth in ‘Si Tu Te Vas’, to the combination of acoustic, electric and synth riffs in ‘Iluminar’, ‘Adiós Hola’ provides the Alternative fan with an epically diverse album.
Fans of Circo, along with those who appreciate creative new music, will definitely want to check out this album! Make sure you follow Circo on their social media to keep up to date with their upcoming releases and performances.
