ABOUT THE ARTIST
The Hobart born singer-songwriter grew up on the NSW Central Coast. Writing songs from the young age of five, Jessie-May’s initial success came through YouTube where her three original tracks, ‘Coffee Shop’, ‘Teen Love’ and ‘Star Child’, amalgamated almost eleven-thousand views. Her latest creative endeavour has come in the form of the nineteen-minute, five track EP: ‘Zone Out’.

‘Zone Out’ was recorded by Russell Pilling and produced by Marshall Cullen at Damien Gerard's Balmain. Andrew Beck handled the vocals, mixing and mastering at the new DG's in West Gosford. Featured musicians include Mark Cashin on drums, Matty Piper on guitar and bass, and Peter Holz on keyboards.
When asked about her creative inspiration for this EP, Jessie-May had this to say:
“I wanted to use this EP to bring my world to you. My stories, thoughts and philosophies in every song, courtesy of tuning out the rest of the world and tapping into my own. ”
The opening track on the EP, ‘Blue Skies’, sits at a steady 118bpm and begins with a single acoustic, accompanying Jessie-May’s vocal. The vocal color on this track has a relaxed feel that perfectly compliments the style of the instrumentation. Sitting cleanly on-top of the mix, Jessie-May’s vocal contribution is deservedly the most prominent feature. A partial crescendo around the 0:32 mark instigates a percussive fill that invites the full instrumentation.
Although the track becomes considerably more full from this point on, the mix allows for each element to be heard with ease, each complimenting one another. The lyrical content of this track revolves around “optimism and happiness” which is matched by the uplifting acoustic/keyboard driven melody.
This five track EP provides a diverse range of songs that capture Jessie-May’s unique style. From the solo acoustic/vocal ballad of ‘Shootin Daisies’ to the eclectic and creative full band track ‘Nightmares’, this EP will certainly please Alternative fans across the board.
