Lola Rising - ‘more music’

Lola Rising’s new single ‘More Music’ will be released alongside their new EP ‘Moving Forward’ set to be available for streaming on 24.04.20

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lola Rising is an Island Reggae band who are also known as “Jahawaiian”. This six-piece, ukulele driven band have a highly energetic compositional style with strong “dance rhythms, horns, and soaring guitars”. Said to be reminiscent of Dirty Heads, Iration and The Green, Lola Rising have been performing and composing their original music since they began in 2014

Their debut LP ‘Westward Bound’ was released in 2016 which featured the single ‘Colorado’ that saw great success in their home state as well as featuring on many college radio stations across the country.

The name of the band originated from the passing of lead singer Paul Medina Guevara’s “Lola”; the Filipino word for grandmother. The word ‘Rising’ was added as a complimentary and powerful evocation of spirituality.

LATEST RELEASE

The upcoming EP ‘Moving Forward’ has been an opportunity for the band to push their boundaries with the use of new genres and stylistic textures that although push the band’s creative energy into new territory, stay true to their unique and original sound.

The lyrical content of the EP incorporates strong subject matter that includes “love, loss, struggle and protecting our Mother Earth” with the utilisation of powerful lyrics and multi-part vocal harmonies to create compositions that will capture the listener’s full focus and attention.

Their single ‘Moving Forward’ is an upbeat and colourful track that commences with a rhythmic bass line coupled with a steady kick before the full instrumentation instigates, utilising a plethora of combinations to create an amazingly original sound.

The verse strips back the instrumentation to bass and percussion to add an emphasis on the clear vocal line. Additional vocal harmony lines are added alongside a guitar that gradually filters into the track before the undeniably catchy chorus commences using a heavenly harmony line that will absolutely be stuck in your head after the track is over. A particular point of interest in the single has got to be the horn section providing a complimentary layer that truly sets this track apart.

A breakdown section near the end of the track utilises an acoustic guitar and panned live noises that make you feel like you are right there with the band enjoying the music as one. The message behind the single is very much geared towards the encouragement of creative energy being embraced and invested in by way of creating more art and by doing so, planting more seeds of inspiration.

Although this band is categorised as ‘Island Reggae’, this track will be universally loved by those who appreciate uplifting and beautiful music with a powerful message.
