From the vibrant music scene of the Greater Detroit Metro Area, Rob Massard has carved out a distinct niche in the world of progressive folk and beyond. Born in Mentor, Ohio, and raised in Northville, Michigan, Rob’s musical journey began early, strumming the open strings of his brother’s Gibson LG-1 while his sibling served in Vietnam. By age seven, he was formally learning guitar, and by sixteen, he was the rhythm guitarist for his first band, Pegasus. These formative years laid the foundation for his lifelong passion for sound and storytelling.
The turning point came in 2016, a year marked by personal loss and newfound inspiration. Following the passing of his brother Gus, Rob was invited into a friend’s home studio to experiment with song ideas. The result was his debut album, Rhythms of Consciousness (2017), a project that ignited a fervent period of artistic exploration. Over the next few years, he released A Quiet Mind (2018), the acoustic remix album naturally (e-koo-stik), and Northern Lights (2019), each showcasing his evolving ability to blend genres like folk, New Age, dream pop, and progressive rock into a seamless, emotive experience.
In 2022, Rob unveiled his most ambitious project yet: Ascension. Collaborating with producer David Roof, he refined his signature style, crafting an album that reviewers have praised as the apex of his artistic vision. With intricate soundscapes and heartfelt storytelling, Ascension transforms folk music into something timeless.
