Celestine Liu is a talented artist whose single ‘Liunique’ is out now! The Liaoning (China) born singer has always had a natural affinity for music; honing her craft over the years as a professionally trained mezzo-soprano and songwriter. Prior to her emergence as a streaming artist, Celestine obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance (Folk) at Shenyang Conservatory of Music, and is also in the process of finishing her master's degree in vocal performance (Bel Canto) at California State University, Northridge. Although she receives inspiration from a number of genres, Celestine Liu combines a variety of compositional elements to form her unique sound.
To date, Celestine Liu has one EP in her online discography: ‘Liunique’. Some of her most popular tracks from the record include the likes of ‘Dance to the Rhythm’, amassing four thousand five hundred streams, ‘Boba Tea’, gathering over four thousand one hundred streams, and ‘Gut Feeling’ with three thousand eight hundred streams. ‘Liunique’ by Celestine Liu is out now and available to stream on all major streaming platforms! The EP lasts around nineteen minutes and consists of five tracks: ‘Gut Feeling’, ‘Boba Tea’, ‘Glitter’, ‘Dance to the Rhythm’, and ‘The Gentle Wind’. The name for the album comes from a combination of the word “unique” and Celestine’s last name “Liu”.
“I’ve always been wanting to create a unique album that combines different musical styles together, so in this album I wrote five songs all in different genres: Indie-pop, Jazz, EDM (Moombahton), Classical. I also sang in multiple ways - from using the mezzo-soprano voice in “Boba Tea” to the soprano voice in “The Gentle Wind”. This is really my first album that embodies my dream and passion, so it has a unique meaning to myself.”
Although ‘Liunique’ is technically grouped under the genre classification of pop, each track delivers a diverse range of compositional elements that showcase Celestine Liu’s songwriting talent; from the melodic keys, steady percussion and emotive vocal color of ‘Gut Feeling’, the jazzy piano line and catchy hook of ‘Boba Tea’, the rhythmic beat, creative instrumental panning and stylistic layering of harmonized backing vocals in ‘Glitter’, the authentic lyricism and upbeat vibe of ‘Dance to the Rhythm’, to the dynamic operatic vocal of ‘The Gentle Wind’.
The most popular track from the album so far, ‘Dance to the Rhythm’, was written to encourage those who have been affected by the pandemic by cheering them up “with a bright melody” that makes you feel like “you are in nature breathing the fresh air”.
