ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lawrence Sean Sibanda, better known as DRAGG, was born in Johannesburg in 1993 to Zimbabwean parents. DRAGG’s world took an unexpected turn at the age of 12 when he lost his sight due to meningitis, but this dramatic life event didn’t dampen his spirits. Instead, it fueled his passion for music, demonstrating his determination and natural talent.
Growing up in the vibrant Johannesburg music scene, DRAGG developed a keen ear for SA Hip Hop, R&B, and Kwaito. He drew inspiration from South African legends like Skwatacamp, TK, Mandoza, and Zola 7, which shaped his early musical tastes and influenced his journey into the world of hip-hop.
In 2006, DRAGG relocated to the UK, a move that coincided with the rise of 50 Cent and G-Unit. It was during this era that he encountered The Game’s album Doctor’s Advocate, a pivotal influence that led him to immerse himself deeply in hip-hop culture. Opening for The Game in 2010 marked not just a professional milestone but also a personal one, connecting DRAGG with the music that had greatly influenced his path.
DRAGG’s talent and drive have seen him share stages with UK icons like Wretch 32, Tim Westwood, and DJ Ace. His collaborative projects boast of names like Lady Leshurr, OD Hunte, Paigey Cakey, and Millyz, showcasing his versatility and ability to blend styles seamlessly.
